In doing my research on 300 blackout, it SEEMS that all it needs is a different barrel. So what would information technology take to catechumen something like a Bushmaster Carbon 15 from 5.56 to 300 AAC Blackout? I have never had an AR platform before. Or do Ineed to get a consummate new upper?
  2. While information technology's truthful you lot could just switch out the barrels and get, there's a bit more to information technology than that. Yous would need a barrel nut wrench to untorque and retorque the nut every single time you want to stitch the calibers, on top of removing and reattaching the gas block and tube every time.

The other side of converting the gun this way is that buying a butt solitary doesn't save you that much money over ownership a new upper. I think barrels solitary start at $150+ whereas you tin can get a whole new upper for $300 and share the bolt. Palmetto State Armory has them for $300 or $350, and all you lot demand to do is take the bolt out of your existing .223 upper and put it in the .300 Blackout upper and your fix to go. Switching betwixt calibers this fashion ways you only have to popular the two takedown pins and throw on the new upper and go shoot. Tin can't beat that! Good luck!

oh, and I am ok having a gunsmith do the work. And I only PLAN to swap it once since 300 is the caliber I want.
  5. Wow your right! Maybe someone can chime in, but the cheapest I can find (through Google) is ~$550. Come up to think of it, that deal may have been a Christmas deal...

Ok option #ii might be to purchase a butt ($170-$200) so the rest of the parts to build it yourself. I'g not sure if this will save you too much money over buying 1 pre-built though between necessary tools and bodily parts.

  6. The $315-$325 16" carbine gas system 300BLK uppers can be found at DSA Inc. (park vs SS butt) BCG not included...

  7. Thanks! I knew I wasn't going nuts!

PERFECT! I see the upper (http://www.dsarms.com/DSA-ZM4-Forged-7075T6-A3-AR15-Upper-Receiver-300AAC---DSZM4CBU300/productinfo/DSZM4CBU300/). So I need a complete lower, bolt, bolt carrier and charging handle? Or would it be easier/cheaper to just get an entry level AR15 and swap the upper? If information technology is better to go the commodities, bolt carrier, and charging handle, tin can yous betoken me in the right direction? (or am i being as well needy? :) )
  9. You lot can just use the BCG from your .223/v.56 upper if you already take 1. The 300BLK uses the standard AR15 bolts, mag's, etc.

If you don't, y'all need a consummate lower, bolt carrier group & charging handle plus an optic or at least a rear sight. You lot can pretty much mix & match stuff from vendors every bit you please. In that location is quite a range of prices and features out there. Shop around and see what works for your budget and taste.

  10. You've got it, except the commodities carrier and bolt are usually sold together every bit a "bolt carrier assembly" similar this.

Now equally for the burglarize itself, I say get the entry level AR for the sake of having a .223 AR to exercise with for clay cheap. Whenever I suggest an AR, I e'er say to have the .223 upper, because even if you don't need it, it makes for cheap plinking and the easy theft of ammo from friends :D Chances are, your going to want to get the upper subsequently anyway, then I'1000 for getting information technology now.

If even so your a little stubborn and simply desire the .300, you can build a lower for $150 and using the instructions on AR15.com information technology'southward the easiest thing on earth. (I tin can pm you a couple actress tips too if you go the build route). And so y'all would simply need the bolt carrier group (~$100 for a good ane), charging handle (~$25), and magazines (~$10-$15 a piece) in addition to the upper itself. Let me know and I'll PM you a piece past piece intermission down of necessary parts for a cheap merely decent AR that'south easy plenty to assemble. :)

thank you so much for all your help. I may hit you upwards in PM for random questions.
  12. No problem my friend! Experience free to ask what yous must!
  13. I want to chime in here and ask a question: and so I have a 223 lower (Thou&P) and I want to get the 300 coma upper. The upper on avant-garde ammunition is similar 1000 dollars! Is there a cheaper way. Because I have heard some people talk about buying this upper and information technology didn't function well with their lower so that's a lot of money especially if it results in issues. So is in that location a cheaper mode that volition piece of work extremely well? I don't mind buying the actual upper already build but if there is a cheaper way that would be extremely difficult or time consuming I would practise that instead. Thanks for the assist!
  14. Ummm, the < $340 DSA sixteen" upper? From comments over at the 300blktalk site, accuracy & function are good to go... (just wish they'd fill some backorders - )

  15. I take a 300 AAC upper from Noveske and I love it. Granted the toll is a petty stiff just everything was assembled correctly finish is excellent and it has its own BCG that is headspaced correctly. Considering I live in Ma I had to have the flash hider replaced with a cage restriction and the i I picked was a few bucks more than but I can fire it at the range without striking people on my left or right side with muzzle blast.
